About Genasi Names
Genasi are mortals visibly touched by the elemental planes. The touch comes through a great-grandparent or further-back ancestor, usually a genie or other powerful elemental being, and it surfaces in a descendant generations later as a single dramatic mark of birth. A fire genasi has skin that runs hot and hair like embers; a water genasi has blue-green skin and hair that moves underwater as if it remembers a different current; an air genasi has pale skin and hair that drifts in winds nobody else feels; an earth genasi has skin patterned with stone-marks and a deep stillness that puts other people at ease without their knowing why.
Each genasi subrace tends to take on the temperament of its element to some degree. Fire genasi are quick to anger and quick to forgive. Water genasi are patient and deceptively deep. Earth genasi are slow to decide and immovable once they have. Air genasi are restless and curious in equal measure. None of this is destiny — a genasi is a person, not a force of nature — but the element shapes the early years, and many genasi find their adult lives are quiet arguments with the element they were born under.
The wider world treats genasi with a mix of admiration and unease. They are striking to look at, useful in many trades, and tied to elemental forces that nobody quite controls. A fire genasi in a wooden-walled tavern is watched. A water genasi at a long royal banquet is whispered about. Genasi grow up aware of this and develop, with time, a particular kind of composed self-presentation that helps the rooms they enter relax.
Genasi Naming Conventions
Genasi take given names from the mortal culture that raised them, but those names often acquire a quiet elemental shading from family tradition. Fire genasi examples: Ashvalor, Calex, Embara, Ignis, Pyralis, Soraya. Water genasi: Caelum, Marina, Nereus, Saela, Thalassa, Vellos. Air genasi: Aerion, Cirrus, Naia, Skyla, Volari, Zephyr. Earth genasi: Bedrock, Felra, Granir, Loma, Stenra, Terran. Many genasi carry a lineage-mark in place of a family surname — a phrase referencing the element and a family virtue or feat: "Emberforge," "Tidewatcher," "Stormcalled," "Stonespoken." A genasi at formal introduction usually gives mortal-given-name first, lineage-mark second.
