About Aasimar Names
Aasimar are mortals touched by the upper planes — usually born of a human line that, somewhere generations back, was visited by a celestial. Most aasimar do not know their celestial ancestor's name; they simply discover, sometime in their teens, that their eyes catch lamplight strangely, that wounds close faster than they should, that a quiet voice has begun offering guidance in their dreams. This voice is the aasimar's protector spirit, and learning to listen to it without being consumed by it is the central work of any aasimar's life.
Aasimar are often mistaken for tieflings' opposites, and that comparison is fair on the surface but misses the texture. Tieflings inherit a stain and are tested by whether they will define themselves around or against it. Aasimar inherit a gift and are tested by whether they will use it humbly or wear it as authority. Both can fall — an aasimar whose protector spirit withdraws can become a "fallen aasimar," touched by the lower planes instead, and the realms remember a few who walked that road.
The aasimar tradition emphasizes mission over self. A well-raised aasimar is taught from childhood that their gift exists to serve others, and that grace is a responsibility, not a credential. The best of them carry this lightly. The worst become self-righteous in the particular way of those who have been told their whole lives that they are blessed. Most live somewhere in between, doing the small ordinary good things that adventures and prophecies usually overlook.
Aasimar Naming Conventions
Aasimar are named in whichever mortal culture raised them, but the names tend to drift toward melody — long vowels, soft consonants, frequent classical roots from Celestial or Old Empyrean. Male given names: Aric, Aurelius, Caelum, Cassian, Daven, Halen, Ilum, Lucius, Marius, Octavian, Perrin, Soren, Theron, Valerian. Female given names: Ariel, Aurora, Auralei, Beatrix, Celestia, Elara, Helena, Ilyana, Isolde, Liora, Mira, Neria, Selene, Seraphina, Valeria. Lineage names — when an aasimar carries one — tend to translate to feats of light, weather, or virtue: Dawnbringer, Stormborn, Lightheart, Goldeye, Moonfire, Sunshield, Brightmail, Highvale, Whitecrest, Holyflame. An aasimar at full formal introduction gives given-name first and lineage-name second.
